Supporting all music ministers as they seek to utilize their art to enhance worship and prayer throughout the Diocese of Grand Rapids

Chapter History

1981 - 2006: Celebrating 25 years!

Founded in 1981 through the Office for Worship of the Diocese of Grand Rapids, Michigan, the local chapter has offered 4-6 programs each year on various topics of learning for those interested and involved in music ministry. Through the years, the Grand Rapids chapter has served as a resource for liturgical musicians, music educators, liturgists, clergy and religious. It has been instrumental in promoting quality in liturgical music ministry and in the development of diocesan music policy. The chapter provides opportunities for musicians to gather for prayer, professional enrichment, continuing education, collegiality and networking. Current membership includes over 80 pastoral musicians from 36 parishes and institutions within the diocese.

In 1993, Our chapter logo was designed by artist Ed Maskevich, and is featured on our publications and our chapter banner.

In 1998, the chapter was thrilled to host the NPM central regional convention, ..."And They Were All Together In One Place".

In 2001, some of the chapter members created the School of Cantor Training, which provides in-depth formation for cantors in vocal technique and liturgical awareness for the Dioceses of Grand Rapids and Saginaw.

2006 again brought the central regional convention to Grand Rapids, "Sing a New World" !
