This position requires, beside good people skills, a commitment to the Catholic faith, management experience in ministries, musical skills such as organizing the choir, conducting rehearsals, playing piano and organ, and directing the choir during the liturgies, working with our Catholic school to develop a musical program for our children. A B.A. in Liturgical Music or its equivalent is a minimum requirement; an M.A. (or its equivalent) in Pastoral Studies or Theology highly recommended.

The Director of Ministries and Music position is full-time. Salary is negotiable based on experience and background; benefits are also offered. In addition, the parish’s vacant convent house can be used for housing, and can be negotiated as part of the salary.

The Church of St. Mary has served Catholics and the community in the city of Big Rapids and its surrounding area since 1878. Currently, there are over 300 registered families within the parish. We have a K-8 Catholic school which celebrates 125 years of quality Catholic education this year. Since 2003, St. Mary shares the same pastor with another parish within the city, St. Paul Campus Parish, near the Ferris State University, and thus a new phase of collaborations and sharing ministries between the two parishes has begun.

Parish of 1400 families located near Grand Rapids, Michigan. We seek a full-time music director to begin work by September 1, 2008. The director will be responsible for the adult and handbell choirs, cantor ministry, funerals and weddings while overseeing the children's choir, two guitar/piano ensembles and a wind/brass ensemble. Principal keyboardist for 3 Masses and occasionally a 4th. Strong piano, organ, choral conducting skills and a knowledge of Catholic liturgy required. Other important skills and qualifications: experience with suburban, multi-ethnic congregations; experience with an eclectic mix of music; music arranging.
